Colombo Dockyard has officially launched a dedicated rapid response service unit to handle afloat and voyage repairs, with a service capability across all major Sri Lankan ports. The new business unit has been created to meet an identified gap in the market for services of this type.
The unit was soft-launched in 2017 and has been in operation for the past two years, gradually gaining the confidence of shipping companies operating in Sri Lankan waters. The official launch of this service took place at the end of May this year and reflects the fact that the rapid response team has been strengthened and systems streamlined so that it is able to accommodate all inquiries.
Colombo Dockyard states that the fast response afloat repair service will be available at the ports of Colombo, Galle, Trincomalee and Hambantota, with the aim of minimising downtime for shipowners and operators, through avoiding the need to enter drydock. The reliability and versatility of the service will be enhanced by a parts back up service using OEM spares and Colombo Dockyard’s own logistics supply chain.
The afloat repair unit has handled over 100 projects in total so far, and 38 this year alone through to the end of May. According to the company the operation is set to grow to become a ‘force to be reckoned with’ in the near future.
