The traffic handled at India’s major ports between April and September this year increased by 10.8% compared to the same period in 2021, rising from 347 million tonnes to 384 million tonnes. During September, traffic at these ports was up by 14.9% as compared to the same month last year, with container traffic rising by over 20%. Ennore was the fastest growing of the major ports in the six months to the end of September, with a total cargo growth rate of 16.4%.
The biggest of the major ports in terms of container handling, JNPT, handed over 481,000 TEU in September, 6.52 % up on the same month in 2021. This takes throughput in the financial year to date at the gateway port to 2.96 million TEU, a rise of 9.5%.
