Two Diving Support Vessels (DSVs) being built under Indian Register of Shipping (IRS) class, have recently been launched by Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL) in Vishakhapatnam, India. The 118m long Nistar and Nipun will be deployed by the Indian Navy to carry out deep sea diving operations along with search and rescue missions, patrolling and helicopter operations at sea.
IRS offered a comprehensive range of classification services to the Indian Navy during the building of Nistar and Nipun, which are considered to represent “a new era” in deep ocean diving operation and submarine rescue operations.
In another significant project for the classification society IRS was recently awarded a package of noise and vibration measurement and analysis work by Colombo Dockyard, in connection with a series of six bulk carriers being built for a Norwegian owner. The first vessel in the innovative series was delivered on 21st September 2022 and the subsequent five ships will be delivered at four-monthly intervals.
A dedicated team of IRS professionals are regularly engaged in the provision of noise and vibration analysis and measurement for shipyards and shipowners in India and abroad. IRS says, “Seafarer well-being is an important element of consideration for owners and managers and through such services we aim to assist owners to improve the wellbeing of seafarers.”
