PIL expands services at Jeddah Islamic Port
Pacific International Lines (PIL) has upped the scale of its operations at Jeddah Islamic Port in Saudi Arabia through the introduction of vans by the Red Sea Gulf (RGS) and Red Sea (RS) shipping services.
RGS connects Jeddah Islamic Port with Nhava Sheva and Mundra in India, Djibouti and Berbera in Somalia, with vessels with capacities up to 1,810 TEU, while the RS2 service links Jeddah with nine major ports across Asia and the Middle East. These include Qingdao, Shanghai, Ningbo, Nansha and Shekou in China; Singapore; Djibouti; Sokhna in Egypt; and Aqaba in Jordan. The RGS 2 service utilises vessels with capacities up to 11,923 TEU.
PIL Intermodal Services is offering road haulage connections for dry and reefer containers between Jeddah and Riyadh, Dammam and Jebel Ali, and vice versa, thereby using Jeddah as a hub through which to serve customers on the Middle East Gulf coast while disruptions continue.
Meanwhile the Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) has announced the addition of two new services, Gulf Sea Shuttle 2 and Gulf Sea Shuttle 3, operated by MSC, to King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam. The Gulf Sea Shuttle 2 service connects Dammam with Hamad Port in Qatar and Umm Qasr Port in Iraq, using containerships with capacities of 1,500–2,500 TEU, while Gulf Sea Shuttle 3 connects the Saudi Gulf coast port with Khalifa Bin Salman Port in Bahrain and Shuwaikh and Shuaiba ports in Kuwait, deploying ships up to 2,500 TEU capacity.
