Orpic Logistic Company, a joint venture between Orpic and Compania Logistica de Hidrocarburos (CLH), has inaugurated the Muscat Sohar Product Pipeline (MSPP) as well as a new fuel terminal in Al Jefnain.
The US$ 336 million investment is an important logistics project for the Sultanate and will deliver more than 50% of Oman’s fuel through the state-of-the-art storage facility in Al Jefnain. In addition to more efficiently meeting domestic demand for fuel, this project will reduce pollution by cutting truck movements in the Muscat area by around 70%.
With around 170,000 m3 of storage capacity, the new Al Jefnain terminal increases the nation’s storage capacity for refined products by 70% and is connected to a 290 km pipeline. This has been built in three sections: from Mina Al Fahal refinery to Al Jefnain; Sohar Refinery to Al Jefnain; and from the Al Jefnain terminal to the new Muscat International Airport.
The new terminal is equipped with 16 loading bays, and has the capacity to load up to 700 trucks per day. Furthermore, the new terminal is supplied by two multi-product and bidirectional pipelines connected to Orpic’sSohar and Muscat refineries, offering a safe and efficient means of oil transportation.
The Muscat Sohar Product Pipeline and Al Jefnain Terminal, which features state-of-the-art control and safety related systems, was constructed by Gulf Petrochemical Services (GPS).
