Doha-based Nakilat has taken delivery of a newbuild LNG carrier, Global Star, which will be commercially and technically managed in-house by the company. Built by Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME), this is the second out of the four LNG carrier newbuilds that will be operated through Global Shipping Co. Ltd., a joint venture between Nakilat (60%) and Maran Ventures. (40%). The first vessel in the series, Global Energy, was delivered in May 2020.
Once all four newbuild LNG carriers are in service it will take Nakilat’s fleet to 74 vessels, representing just under 12% of the current global LNG fleet based on carrying capacity. Each of the four newbuildings have a cargo carrying capacity of 173,400 m3 and are equipped with advanced propulsion technology and an optimised hull design.
