H.E. Dr. Mohammed Abdullah Al Mehrezi, director general of RAK Customs, together with Captain Cliff Brand, the chief executive of RAK Ports Group, inaugurated the new RAK Port Customs Centre last week.
The investment is part of RAK Customs’ strategy for developing facilities manned with qualified human resources and highly advanced inspection devices, designed to accommodate the growth in trade moving through RAK ports. “This new building is a purpose-designed facility, which will fully satisfy customs inspection requirements, saving the effort and time of our customers,” H.E. Dr. Al Mehrezi said.
The new centre has been provided with a dedicated space for the latest inspection devices, and a secured seizures room, in addition to a raised inspection platform that has been designed to the latest technical specifications. H.E. Dr. Al Mehrezi adds, “The new centre will not only serve companies operating within RAK Port, its free zone, and other investors, but will also serve wooden dhows shipping goods through the ports.” He also pointed out that RAK Ports’ new passenger terminal, due to be operational in September this year, will soon be receiving tourist cruise ships, and the new Customs centre will have a key role to play in meeting this trend as well.
