Bharat Mumbai Container Terminals (BMCT), a subsidiary of Singapore based PSA International, has taken delivery of three new super-post-Panamax ship-to-shore container cranes. Their arrival takes the total number of shoreside cranes at the terminal to nine.
The latest cranes were manufactured by Doosan Heavy Industries in South Korea. All are twin-lift capable, with a capacity of 65 tonnes under the spreader, and can work latest generation containerships with containers stacked 22 rows across on deck.
More container handling equipment deliveries are scheduled over the course of the rest of 2018 and 2019. These will include three more quayside gantry cranes.
BMCT is, after less than three months of operations, already achieving high levels of productivity, in excess of 100 moves per hour for mainline vessels.
Sivakumar K, BMCT general manager, says, “The additional equipment will allow us to continue on our trajectory of growth in volume and service levels, as well as stimulating more mega vessel calls to Nhava Sheva.”
