As part of efforts to boost its export import trade, Paradip Port Trust (PPT) has installed a new mobile x-ray container scanner near the PICT terminal, with the aim of reducing the need for the physical examination of containers and thereby dwell times at the Port.
The new machine can scan up to 25 containers per hour, enabling shippers to directly move their containers with upgraded security and “zero hassle.”
It will also facilitate movement of unshredded metallic scrap materials in containers through the port to meet the long standing requirement of industries in the hinterland.
The operation of the scanner is expected to help boost container volumes at Paradeep Port, by helping to reduce logistics costs for the EXIM trade. According to the PPT, “While shipping lines like RCL, ZIM International Shipping Line and Shreyas Shipping are calling regularly, other major lines are likely to follow, considering the upgraded facilities and hefty discount offered by the Port.”
