Sohar Port and Freezone has announced the official inauguration of the new Allied Ondock Container Services facility in the port, as well as the signing of an expansion agreement worth around US$ 2.6 million. The new container depot will initially cover an area of three hectares, based on a contract for the development which was signed back in June 2023. The latest contract provides for an expansion of an additional two hectares, to meet the rising demand for container depot capacity in the region.
Allied Ondock, a subsidiary of the Singapore-based Allied Container Group, will be offering a range of services, including container storage, repair, inspection and washing/cleaning facilities. The additional area will be used to expand the company’s warehousing capacity. Allied Ondock says it will facilitate the transfer of containers from Hutchison Ports Sohar, by unloading cargo in its warehouse.
The opening of the Allied Onfdock facility is expected to significantly enhance Sohar Port’s operational capacity and reduce turnaround times. “This strategic partnership allows us to introduce our advanced container handling solutions to a key logistics hub in the Middle East,” said Lim Kian Chin, owner of Allied Ondock Container Services Group. “By enhancing our services at Sohar Port, we are not only contributing to its growth but also providing a competitive edge for its tenants.”
This initiative follows healthy recent container traffic growth at Sohar. Container volumes at the port increased by 21% in the third quarter of 2024 compared to the same period in 2023.
