Indian terminal operator J.M.Baxi & Co. has handled what are claimed to be the heaviest units moved in lift on/lift off mode at Mumbai port. The vessel Poolgracht arrived at Mumbai on 3rd May, before leaving on 11th May, having loaded two heavy lift packages, weighing over 961 tons each. Overall JM Baxi discharged a total of six packages with a combined weight of 1,928 tons and a volume of 7,242 m3.
The operation was carried out under the supervision of the vessel’s crew, as ship stability had to be monitored by the master and chief officer during the course of loading the heavy items. The agency and stevedoring team of J.M. Baxi & Co, along with staff at Mumbai port, supported crew in loading the heavy packages safely without causing any damage to the vessel or the port property. The company said it was a “proud moment for the entire team to be part of this achievement.”
In another recent milestone, J. M. Baxi & Co. handled its first crew change at Vizhinjam port. All the crew was of Indian nationality, with six signing on, and four signing off the Marine Gracious. Vizhinjam is an anchorage port, and in these challenging times is proving to be convenient for carrying out crew changes due to its geographic location and proximity to key trade lanes.
