UAE-based Lamprell reports that its offshore rig refurbishment business continues to attract a good flow of work. In the first six months of 2019, the company completed a total of nine refurbishment projects and received eight rigs in its yards for refurbishment work. Lamprell furthermore secured two new rig refurbishment contracts which are due to arrive at its Middle East yards during the second half of the year.
Lamprell is currently stacking 12 rigs in Sharjah and Hamriyah. The company says it is seeing a gradual, if small, increase in the scope of work performed, which is encouraging for future prospects in this sector.
Construction work at the new IMI yard in Saudi Arabia is progressing well, Lamprell states. Dredging and all other ground improvement works have been completed with the site now handed over to contractors for construction works. All four of the fabrication zones at the yard are expected to be commissioned for operation in late 2022.
