The official start of work to build a new logistics park in King Abdulazziz port in Dammam was marked recently with a traditional ceremony to lay a foundation stone, held in the presence of H.E. Eng. Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser, Minister of Transport and Logistics Services and Chairman of the Saudi Ports Authority, Mawani. The new facility will be operated by Medlog, the logistics arm of the Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), which is committed to investing more than SR 150 million in the project.
The new logistics centre covers an area of over 100,000 m 2 and has an annual throughput capacity of 300,000 TEU. According to a statement from Mawani, the facility aims to “facilitate the growth of shipping connectivity, and global logistics services, and to raise the quality and efficiency of the services delivered to local and international customers across the Kingdom. It will also provide quality logistics services that increase the private sector’s contribution to supporting the wheel of economic development and increasing economic diversification.”
