DP World Unveils Major Expansion Plan for Mina Al Hamriyah
DP World has announced a major infrastructure investment project at Mina Al Hamriya in Dubai, involving the construction of a 700m long quay with a 12m draft, designed to accommodate larger vessels and expand the port’s cargo handling capability.
This initiative aims to build further on the port’s 2024 expansion, which added 1150m metres of quay wall, significantly boosting berthing capacity. The port now handles a growing mix of steel, breakbulk, ro-ro and container cargoes, as well as traditional wooden dhows. It is a key gateway for fruits and vegetables as well as livestock, with imports expected to reach 1 million head of cattle in 2025.
Since last year’s upgrade, the port has registered an 11% increase in vessel calls, rising from 2,430 in the first half of 2024 to 2,700 in the first six months of 2025. This reflects strong customer demand for the port, which is close to Dubai’s city centre.
The announcement of the fresh investment plans was made during a visit by Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to Mina Al Hamriyah to review the port’s ongoing development and strategic role in regional trade. During the visit, His Highness toured the port and was briefed on its role in supporting the UAE’s food sector and trade across the Arabian Gulf, especially in terms of perishables and livestock.
