The Larsen & Toubro (L&T)-built Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV), ICGS Vigraha, was recently commissioned by the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) in Chennai. The handover meant the yard has now completed delivery of all seven OPVS ordered by India’s Ministry of Defence in 2015 ahead of schedule.
This is the first time that the entire design and construction of an OPV class of ships has been undertaken by an Indian private sector shipyard.
The ICGS Vigraha is about 98 m long, 15 m wide, has a 3.6 m draught, a range of 5000 Nautical Miles and a service speed of up to 26 knots. The vessel has been certified by American Bureau of Shipping as well as Indian Register of Shipping.
