The Minister for Shipping, Shri Mansukh Mandaviya has laid the foundation stone for the development of a new liquid cargo jet at JNPT in India. The facility will be designed to handle 4.5 million tonnes of cargo a year and is an essential element in the port’s efforts to keep pace with rapidly growing demand.
The total cost of the additional liquid bulk terminal will be about RS 309 crore. It is expected to be connected to the existing oil terminal in the port, which is operating close to capacity, through a new bridge. The project is one of three key infrastructure developments underway or planned for JNPT. The others are a 2.5 million tonnes capacity coastal shipping terminal and Phase 2 of the BMCT container terminal, both of which are at the preparatory stage.
