On its maiden call into Saudi Arabia one of the world’s biggest containerships, the 23,656 teu capacity MSC Mina, berthed at King Abdullah Port. The Red Sea Saudi port thereby underlined its ability to handle vessels of this size and also its ongoing partnership with the MSC group.
One of a series of 11 vessels that MSC has ordered, MSC Mina not only sets a new benchmark in its size but incorporates a range of technology designed to reduce fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions.
King Abdullah Port handled its first MSC container vessel in 2014. The MSC London was also the largest container ship to dock at a Saudi port at that time.
The port recently announced the receipt of 28 Liebherr cranes as part of the latest new phase of the container terminal expansion project. Technical teams are currently installing the cranes in the port and they are expected to begin operating by the beginning of next year.
