Colombo Dockyard has carried out the keel laying ceremony involving a new 19m pilot and patrol boat for the Kowa Company of Japan. Being built to a proven design developed by MacDuff of Scotland, the vessel can accommodate a total number of 12 persons and achieve a speed of 20 knots.
In addition to this new boat, Colombo Dockyard has already built and delivered two similar pilot launches over the past year for the Sri Lanka Ports Authority while a third vessel is also under constructional the yard.
This latest keel laying ceremony was organised and conducted to a modest scale, and in a simple manner, paying special attention to the need for caution given the Covid 19 outbreak. Adhering to the Sri Lankan Government’s Health and Safety guidelines, the yard was able to demonstrate its corporate social responsibility with regards the prevention of any possible transmission of the virus.
