Karachi Shipyard & Engineering Works (KS&EW) has ordered a third new tug from the Damen group. The latest order for an ASD Tug 2009 package, under the Damen Technical Cooperation (DTC) scheme, follows a contract for two ASD Tugs 2009 signed in July this. KS&EW will be constructing all three vessels in Karachi, with Damen’s support.
Work on the first two vessels is now underway, following a steel cutting ceremony held on 11th October in Karachi. The two shipyards have been working together since 1988 and have successfully delivered numerous vessels to various clients in Pakistan.
According to Damen, the ASD Tug 2009 is a proven, standardised design featuring “excellent seakeeping behaviour, superb manoeuvrability and outstanding towing characteristics”. The first two vessels will be operated by the Pakistan Navy to support its fleet.
