In May this year Indian gateway JNPT received 80 tonnes of liquid medical oxygen from the United Arab Emirates. Four containers carrying the medical oxygen in a cryogenic state arrived on the GSF Giselle for onward despatch to locations in need across the country.
JNPT handled the oxygen containers free of cost in line with the directive of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping & Waterways. Commenting on the development, Shri Sanjay Sethi, IAS, Chairman, JNPT said, “JNPT, along with its stakeholders, continues to be an important part of the supply chain and we are committed to the growth of nation’s economy by delivering its duties during these challenging times.“
JNPT is witnessing a surge in cargo handling activity, despite the various problems faced during the past few months. In April this year, the port handled 468,015 TEU of containers compared with 283,802 TEU during the same period the previous year, a growth rate of 64.91%.
