India’s leading container gateway, Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT), achieved a throughput of 344,316 teu in July. This is 19% higher than in June, reflecting the strong recovery of the Indian economy post lockdown.
The port handled total of 196 vessels during the course of the month while the overall volume of traffic handled in July was 4.85 million tonnes. This is also an increase of 19% compared with the 4.07 million tonnes handled in June this year.
Shri Sanjay Sethi, Chairman, JNPT said, “In July we have seen exports increasing and expect even imports to get back to normal by the end of this month. There were few ups and downs but we have managed to keep the operations up and running.”
In an important development for the port, Hindustan Infralog Private Limited (HIPL), a joint venture between DP World and NIIF, has announced a major investment to develop the Nhava Sheva Business Park Free Trade Warehousing Zone situated at JNPT. The project will be completed by the end of 2021 and will provide a logistics facility for both domestic and international traders at JNPort.
