JNPA records continued container traffic growth
India’s Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA), the country’s leading container trade gateway, has continued to record strong container traffic growth this year.
Total container throughput in February reached 668,363 TEU, 8.47% higher than the 616,164 TEU recorded in February 2025. Traffic volume in the financial year to date, running from April 2025 to February 2026, reached 7.43 million TEU, representing a 12.01% increase compared with the same period in 2024/25 and marking an all-time record for the port.
The two largest container terminals within the JNPA operational area are the APM Terminals-operated Gateway Terminals India facility, which has handled 2.06 million TEU in the financial year to date, an increase of 8.84%, and the PSA India-controlled BMCT facility, which recorded 2.4 million TEU, a surge of 17.6% compared with the 2.05 million TEU handled during the equivalent months of the previous financial year.
PSA India recently handled its largest container vessel to date, Hapag-Lloyd’s 23,664 TEU capacity Damietta Express. The terminal also passed the milestone of handling 12 million TEU since its inauguration, while operational efficiency has been improved through the commencement of 11-high container stacking at the facility.
