The first phase of a new bunkering facility has come on stream in Salakh District of Qeshm Island in the Gulf. The initial target of the facility is the refunding of container ships.
The bunker station is a joint venture between IRISL, NITC and the Quesm Free Zone Organisation, and currently comprises ten vertical tanks, each able to store 5260 tons of fuel. The capacity of the first phase is estimated to be 1 million barrels a year. The strategic aim is to steadily expand capacity, to 100 million barrels, and make Qeshm a regional bunkering hub.
