H.E. Dr. Abdullatif A. Sultan, Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Shipowners’ Association (OISA), recently met with Amir Mosadeghi, Islamic P&I Club (IPANDI)’s CEO, and the rest of the IPANDI team, to discuss ongoing efforts of the Club to support activities the Middle East region, and the rest of the world.
The meeting was held at IPANDI’s Dubai Office with H.E. Dr. Hamoudah, the Chairman of OISA, also in attendance. The goal of the discussions was to confirm the long-lasting relationship between the two organisations and further strengthen this bond, as well as exploring areas that can be improved on in order to provide better support for both Islamic and non-Islamic shipowners’ worldwide in terms of marine insurance and other matters.
OISA was set up to serve Islamic countries in the maritime transportation field following the Third Summit Conference of the OIC countries held in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in 1981. The aim of the Organization is to enhance trade flows and cooperation among Islamic countries in the field of maritime transport.
The relationship between OISA and Islamic P&I Club goes as far back as the establishment of the Club. The idea of IPANDI was first proposed and approved by OISA members at the 9th General Assembly of OISA in 1996 in Tunisia. Afterwards the assembly introduced their members to the concept of the Club and, after receiving confirmations, in 2004, at OISA’s 15th General Assembly meeting, IPANDI was officially born. Since then, the Club has been a particularly active part of OISA and has a very close relationship with its leaders and members.
