Oman and UAE Launch Intermodal Rail Services for Seamless Trade
Following an agreement signed at Global Rail 2025, Hafeet Rail and Asyad Logistics are set to establish new intermodal train services connecting the Sultanate of Oman and the United Arab Emirates. The partnership is designed to enable seamless end-to-end container movements along the Oman–UAE railway corridor, covering rail haulage, port operations, customs clearance, consolidation, and last-mile delivery.
Ahmed Al Musawa Al Hashemi, CEO of Hafeet Rail, said: “This agreement marks a defining step as Hafeet Rail transitions from development to operational readiness. By working with Asyad and regional port operators, we are building an intermodal ecosystem that ensures containers move seamlessly from rail to final delivery.”
In recent weeks, Hafeet Rail, the developer and operator of the Oman–UAE Joint Railway Network, has announced several key milestones in the construction of the cross-border project, confirming that progress remains firmly on track and on schedule.
Among the most notable achievements so far is the commencement of tunnelling work in the Al-Hajar Mountains in the Governorate of Al-Buraimi. Access roads to the tunnel entrances have been secured to allow the delivery of heavy equipment and materials, while drilling and blasting work on the tunnel portals is underway ahead of the full excavation phase. Once civil works on the tunnels are complete, the project will move forward with formation, track laying and systems installation.
Earlier this month, Hafeet Rail received its first delivery of tracks at Sohar Port, a major milestone signalling steady progress toward the start of track laying. At the same time, construction continues on key supporting infrastructure, including 881 culverts and 57 bridges, some rising up to 34 metres high.
The new intermodal rail services are expected to play a pivotal role in enhancing regional logistics integration, improving cross-border connectivity, and strengthening GCC trade links between Oman, the UAE, and neighbouring markets.
