Mumbai-based Great Eastern Shipping Company has taken delivery of a secondhand Very Large Gas Carrier (VLGC). The 2007-built Jag Viraat has a capacity of around 81,617 m3, and will further raise the profile of the company in the gas transportation sector. In addition, GE Shipping has an agreement to purchase a further, medium-sized gas carrier from an unnamed owner.
GE Shipping now has a fleet of 48 vessels. This includes 12 crude oil carriers, 17 product tankers, 4 LPG carriers and 15 bulkers, including Capesize, Kamsarmax and Supramax class vessels. These ships have a combined capacity of 3.94 million dwt and an average age of 10.44 years.
