Gulftainer Opens UAE’s First Bonded Inland Container Depot in Sharjah
Gulftainer has launched what is believed to be the UAE’s first bonded Inland Container Depot (ICD) in Sharjah, marking a key milestone in the country’s logistics and supply chain development. The new facility, which is now fully operational, is strategically located 20 km from the Port of Sharjah and 140 km from Khorfakkan Port. Designed to streamline customs procedures, it aims to accelerate cargo movement and provide cost-effective logistics solutions for importers, exporters, NVOCCs and shipping carriers.
The Sharjah ICD is equipped with technologically advanced mobile container handling equipment and a high-speed computerised system. According to Gulftainer, its integration into both regional and international supply chains will enhance efficiency and significantly strengthen the UAE’s position as a global logistics hub. By enabling faster processing and lowering operational costs, the company believes the bonded depot will play a “vital role in transforming regional logistics and supply chain dynamics.”
Alongside this development, Gulftainer has reinforced its senior leadership team with a series of strategic appointments. Omar Rishi has joined as Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer of the Ports and Terminals Division; Peter Verheijen has become Executive Vice President and Managing Director of the Container Division; and Aju Abraham-Thomas has been appointed Executive Vice President and Managing Director of Marine and Logistics Services.
