Continuing its business diversification strategy, which aims to put it on a stronger financial footing going forward, Dubai-based Gulf Navigation Holding has signed a partnership agreement with SeaQuest, an international provider of ship management and newbuilding project management services. Through this partnership, Gulf Navigation plans to expand its ship management and marine consultancy business in the Middle East and Africa through a new subsidiary company that will be headquartered in Dubai, with effect from January 2017.
Gulf Navigation will be able to draw on the solid experience of SeaQuest, which has a network of offices in Europe and the Far East and operates around 25 vessels. It has also been involved in the construction of more than 25 new ships for international shipowners.
Sebastian Portunato, director of SeaQuest, described the signing of the agreement, which took place in Geneva, as ‘a very exciting moment for our group.’ He added, “By joining forces with one of the leading UAE shipping companies, we have the unique opportunity to enter a very active and expanding market, and bring our expertise and skills, as well as our consistent and persistent approach, to quality services.”
Gulf Navigation has also recently entered into a strategic alliance with Mena Energy. The two companies have agreed that Gulf Navigation will acquire up to 12 vessels of between 50,000 and 120,000dwt that will be time chartered to Mena Energy for the transportation of crude and petroleum products.
Mena Energy is one of the region’s leading traders of crude and petroleum products. The company manages storage tank terminals and also owns and operates a fleet of tankers.
