Leading Indian private sector shipowner, Great Eastern Shipping, has taken delivery of a second hand 77,992 cu m capacity very large gas carrier, the 2002-built Jag Vishnu. At the same time, it has sold a 1996-built gas carrier, Jag Vidhi to unnamed buyers. The company has also contracted to buy a LR 2 type product tanker, which is expected to be delivered in the third quarter of the current financial year.
Great Eastern’s current fleet stands at 46 vessels, comprising 33 tankers, 11 crude oil carriers, 17 product tankers and five LPG carriers, as well as 13 dry bulk carriers, with a combined capacity of 3.7 million dwt. The average age of vessels in the fleet is now 12.53 years.
