Emirates Shipping Line (ESL) has opened up a new office in Muscat as part of its efforts to strengthen ties with the local Omani market. Emirates Shipping Line Agency (Muscat), a wholly owned subsidiary of ESL, now represents the container shipping line in the Sultanate of Oman.
Having been in the Sultanate since the company’s inception in 2006, ESL’s activities have grown steadily in recent years. From moving under 1000 TEU in 2017 it now ships over 50,000 TEU from Omani ports today.
At present, the Sultanate is connected to ESL’s network through a number of mainline services. The Cosmos (CMX) service, which was launched earlier in the year, for example, provides a direct connection to key ports in Central China, including Shanghai and Ningbo, and Southeast Asia, such as Singapore and Port Klang. Oman is also well connected to the Indian Subcontinent via ESL’s Gulf Pakistan Shuttle (GPS) and India Gulf Express (IGX) services.
Additionally, ESL has recently strengthened its position with regards the Saudi market by adding a call by its Gulf Red Sea Connector (GRC) service to Jeddah Islamic Port. This connects Jeddah with the ports of Jebel Ali in the UAE, Aqaba in Jordan, and Sokhna in Egypt, with 2,550 TEU capacity containerships.
ESL is headquartered in the Jebel Ali Free Zone, in the United Arab Emirates. With a network of over 70 offices across 29 countries, ESL currently operates an annual capacity of around 700,000 TEU and calls at 60 terminals weekly.
