In an important milestone for the Middle East cruise sector, Dubai Harbour recently welcomed its first cruise passengers, with the arrival of the 252m long cruise ship AIDAbella, marking the start of the cruise season at the terminal, owned by investment firm Shamal Holding.
Overall, Dubai’s 2021-2022 cruise season is expected to see the emirate handle 126 ship calls and welcome over 500,000 cruise visitors. More than 150,000 of these passengers are forecast to transit through the Dubai Harbour Cruise Terminal. Abdulla Binhabtoor, Chief Portfolio Management Officer, Shamal Holding, said: “Along with the launch of Expo 2020 Dubai this year, the opening of the cruise terminal represents a significant milestone in realising Dubai’s destiny to become the most visited city in the world.”
The newly developed Dubai Harbour Cruise Terminal comprises two terminal buildings designed to process over 3250 passengers an hour. The facility has access to 910m of quay that can accommodate a complete passenger turnaround of two of the world’s largest cruise ships simultaneously.
