Fleet Line Shipping of Dubai, working closely with its branch office in Iraq, has carried out a number of notable door-to-door shipments in recent weeks. This includes the movement of 1200 tons of steel plates, produced in Ukraine, which was brought to Jebel Ali on a break-bulk vessel. Following inspection by Bureau Veritas, and the completion of necessary documentary checks, this cargo was then re-loaded onto another break-bulk carrier for shipment to the Iraqi port of Umm Qasir. The local Fleet Line office then took over responsibility for the cargo, carrying out customs clearance and delivery to the receiver’s site, where it arranged the necessary cranes and manpower to complete the job.
Fleet Line has also recently won a bid for moving 2000 containers a year from several countries to Iraq on a duty paid basis. Its responsibility includes importing containerized chemicals on an Iraq trade license, customs clearance and door-to-door delivery. Two lots, comprising 110 containers in total, have been successfully delivered in the past month, the company states.
In December the company also delivered 800 cu m of oil field cargo to Erbil in Kurdistan via Mersin, Turkey. The scope of the project involved transferring the cargo from Abu Dhabi to Mersin port, where the Fleet Line Iraq branch office completed the final Customs clearance at Zakho border. As Fleet Line took over responsibility for the complete job, there was no need for the consignee or their representatives locally to get involved.
