Drydocks World Dubai, part of the DP World group, has begun work converting an Aframax tanker to a Floating Storage and Offloading Unit (FSO) for Dixstone, a contractor for Perenco Petroleo e Gas do Brasil. The first steel for the FSO Pargo project, expected to last around ten months, was cut in early October.
The extensive modification and life extension work will include the provision of a new hull coating, designed to make the FSO’s performance reliable for 20 years of uninterrupted service in offshore operations. Other work includes the fabrication and installation of an external turret for weather waning, helideck fabrication and integration, metering skid installation, modifications to the cargo system and the installation of a hose reel and crane.
COO of Drydocks World, Neil Millar, commented: “This is an important milestone for Drydocks World. With our extensive industry knowledge, world class facilities and talented team of engineering experts we are a trusted partner to the shipping and offshore oil and gas industry, delivering projects safely, on time and to the highest standards.”
