DP World joins clean seas initiative to reduce plastic waste
DP World has joined the Maritime Association for Clean Seas (MACS), intensifying its efforts to reduce plastic waste in the world’s oceans. The company plans to work with industry partners to address ocean plastic pollution, which is a a growing global challenge impacting maritime ecosystems and coastal communities.
Glen Hilton, CEO & Managing Director, Asia Pacific, DP World, says, “Sustainability is central to how we enable global trade. By joining MACS, we are strengthening our commitment to reducing plastic waste across our port operations and logistics network and working with partners to implement solutions that can scale across global trade routes.”
Through MACS, DP World will utilise its operational expertise and global presence to support solutions that reduce plastic leakage across the maritime sector, including port operation and inland logistics, though initiatives to reduce single-use plastics and improve waste management across key sites, among others.
Every year, up to 14 million tonnes of plastic leaks into the sea, killing an estimated 100 million animals annually and negatively affecting 600 million livelihoods. Founded in 2025 by Seven Clean Seas (SCS), MACS unites founding members including Berge Bulk, X-Press Feeders, Pacific International Line and others from across the global maritime sector. The initial focus for MACS members in 2026 is on three key areas: sustainable procurement and material use; vessel waste measurement and reduction; and improved portside waste reception.
