DP World and Madhya Pradesh to develop Powarkheda logistics hub
DP World has signed an agreement with the Government of Madhya Pradesh to develop the Powarkheda Logistics Composite Hub, an inland logistics gateway designed to strengthen India’s export competitiveness and drive economic growth in Central India.
The Powarkheda Hub is expected to significantly enhance access to global markets by enabling faster, more reliable and cost-efficient containerised trade for key districts including Dhar, Indore and Raisen, which are driving growth across sectors such as pharmaceuticals, textiles, aluminium products and agri-commodities.
Spread across 88.3 acres, the hub is being developed as a rail-connected inland terminal linking Central India directly to Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) at Nhava Sheva. In addition to rail connectivity for domestic and export-import containers, the terminal will include warehousing, temperature-controlled cold storage and a range of on-site container services, including repair and maintenance.
The project is expected to deliver a 30 – 40% reduction in transit times to JNPA compared with road transport, improve reliability through a modal shift to rail; reduce emissions and road congestion; and lower post-harvest losses through enhanced cold chain and storage infrastructure.
