Saudi Arabia’s Ras Al-Khair Port has posted its highest monthly throughput figure ever in handling around 1.06 million tons last December. The landmark performance represents a new milestone in the industrial port’s journey as a maritime gateway for mining imports and exports. Last month saw the Gulf port receive a total of 43 ships loaded with a range of bulk cargoes, including ammonia, soda and sulphuric acid.
The Saudi port has also set a new record annual cargo throughput record. During 2022 Ras Al Khair handled 8.6. million tons, up 24% from the 6.98 million tons handled in 2021. The achievement is impressive as the port was only opened in 2016 to cater for the demand generated by industrial projects in the city of Ras Al-Khair, the Kingdom’s new mining hub. The port features 14 berths that can handle up to 35 million tons of cargo a year.
