The Omani port of Duqm has announced its arrival as a significant regional container gateway with the handling of the first containerised cargo for Duqm Refineries. These landmark containers were transported on containerships operated by the Korean container line Hyundai Merchant Marine and Oman Shipping Lines.
Currently the container terminal at the port of Duqm has a total capacity up to 200,000 teu annually and is equipped with mobile container handling cranes. It is designed primarily to serve the import and exports requirements of projects taking place within Duqm and its hinterland.
General manager, Reggy Vermeulen, says, “This is just the beginning. The port of Duqm will accommodate all imports for the Duqm Refinery project during its construction which will take approximately 36 months until its completion.”
