Colombo Dockyard PLC (CDPLC) is moving to execute a signed contract with Misje Eco Bulk, a Norwegian company, to build six Eco Bulk Carriers, with an option for four more.
These 89.95m long, 5000 dwt capacity vessels are designed to carry include a wide range of cargoes including grain, timber, palletised cargoes, and containers. Each vessel is powered by a four stroke Diesel engine, with an electric hybrid system supplying additional power through a battery system. As a result, they will have lower emissions compared to conventional bulkers of the same size. The concept and the basic design have been developed by Wartsila Ship Design Norway while the detailed design work will be carried out by CDPLC.
The first vessel of the series is scheduled to be delivered within 18 months and the subsequent vessels will be delivered at four-monthly intervals.
