India’s JM Baxi carried out the signing off of 861 Indian seafarers from the cruise ship Ovation of the Seas on 8th and 9th June in Mumbai. The operation set a new record for the highest number of crew changes carried out in a 24 hour period.
This is the third cruise liner that JM Baxi has handled at Mumbai to disembark crew stranded as a result of coronovirus. Similar, smaller scale operations were performed for Seven Seas Voyager in May, and in April for Marella Discovery. JM Baxi will manage crew disembarkation for five more cruise ships in the coming weeks. This includes Anthem of the Seas which is en route to Mumbai carrying 3000 Indian crew members, and Celebrity Infinity with 1400 crew.
