ASRY, Bahrain’s main shipyard, has signed an agreement that will see MAN Diesel & Turbo, the world’s leading supplier of large diesel engines and turbo machinery, take a permanent presence in the shipyard. The new MAN workshop area, which became operational in November, will allow service engineers to provide authorized support to products on vessels calling at ASRY and the Kingdom of Bahrain.
The agreement is the latest development in the so-called ‘Project Jupiter’, an initiative designed to give ASRY a larger portfolio of on-site specialist contractors in the Middle East. “ASRY is proud to have attracted one of the most recognized names in the global marine industry to Bahrain,” said Nils Kristian Berge, ASRY, Chief Executive. “We will undoubtedly benefit from having authorized experts on hand to provide quick services and repairs to the many customers who choose MAN’s products. Combined with other recent additions to the yard under Project Jupiter, such as Seven Seas, ABB, Solas, and more, ASRY is securing its position as a regional hub for authorized marine expertise.”
ASRY already accommodates 33 specialist contractors, including leading names such as Gates, Alfa Lavel, Blohm+Voss, Harris PYE, Goltens, and others. As Project Jupiter continues, the yard expects to see several more global players take a permanent and significant presence in the yard.
In a separate development ASRY has promoted Rob Bryant to be the new General Manager of the Offshore Services Division, effective immediately. Mr. Bryant brings more than 40 years’ worth of shipyard management experience with global leaders such as A&P Group, CTC Marine, and KVASIR. He will lead the Offshore Services division of ASRY which focuses on rig repair work across the Middle East and globally.
