Aqaba Container Terminal (ACT), a leading gateway to the Levant region and beyond, recently welcomed the maiden call of Ocean Network Express (ONE) at the Jordanian port.
ONE is a new global shipping line formed following the merger of the container shipping operations of Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL), Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK) and Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha (K Line). It is now the 6th largest container line in the world with a fleet of 240 vessels, including 31 latest generation mega containerships.
Representatives from ACT’s management team, along with ONE’s local agent, Gargour Shipping Company, welcomed the captain of the 275m long MOL Garland and presented him with a special plaque to commemorate the maiden call in Aqaba of this new shipping line.
The vessel is deployed in the AR1 service with a rotation that starts in Busan, before sailing through Shanghai, Ningbo, Shekou, Singapore, Port Kelang, Jeddah and then Aqaba. On its way back to Busan, the service will be calling at Sokhna, Jeddah, Singapore and Ningbo.
According to a statement from ACT: “This new AR1 service presents many new opportunities for investors, traders, importers, and exporters. ACT is now taking an active role in promoting Aqaba as a strategic regional trading hub, and the preferred gateway to Jordan and beyond.”
