A new cruise shipping facility has been opened up in the Jordanian port of Aqaba, as the result of a joint initiative between Jordanian and UAE interests. The ceremony coincided with the docking of the cruise ship MSC Splendida with over 2000 tourists on board.
As part of an agreement signed last year, AD Ports Group will develop, manage and operate the new cruise terminal, which is scheduled to receive over 50 cruise ships in the next four months. The terminal comprises a 700m quay wall, passenger and luggage hall, indoor retail spaces, free Wi-Fi, prayer rooms and offices and is a conceived as a one-stop-shop for multiple stakeholders serving the cruise business, improving processes, procedures and services and making it an attractive destination for cruise lines.
The new Aqaba cruise ship terminal is the first of five strategic ventures in the pipeline between the AD Ports Group and the Aqaba Development Company intended to boost the tourism, logistics and transport sectors in the port city.
