As part of its ongoing efforts to improve facilities at Khalifa Bin Salman Port (KBSP), APM Terminals Bahrain has invested in three new weighbridges to enhance its VGM (Verified Gross Mass) service. Two of the new fully automatic installations will be located at the entry gate and one, for outbound traffic, inside the container terminal. This is in addition to the two manually-operated weighbridges that are currently operational at the terminal.
The new weighbridges are expected to ensure uninterrupted truck flows and will be linked with KBSP’s terminal operating system to automatically provide a VGM record for the container, thereby reducing costs and delays for customers. All trucks entering the terminal will have to be pre-registered and will be supplied with an RFID card, which the truck driver is required to swipe on entry and exit enabling the generation of VGM data.
Furthermore, digital loads cells will be installed on the new weighbridges to improve weight accuracy and reduce maintenance, APM Terminals states.
