APL’s Gulf Asia Express 2 (GA2) will shortly start calling the port of Umm Qasr, in Iraq. The service will also make a second call to Jebel Ali during the return leg of its service rotation to Asia. These initiatives demonstrate a commitment to improve market connectivity between the Far East and Middle East, the carrier states.
The enhanced GA2 service is to offer Asian shippers direct access to Umm Qasr, which is currently only accessible through feeder services via Jebel Ali. With the addition of Jebel Ali to its Middle East – Asia leg, the GA2 service will offer shippers faster transit times for export cargo from the UAE to the Far East.
The improved GA2 service will commence sailing from Shanghai on August 6th. The revised rotation will be Shanghai, Ningbo, Taipei, Shekou, Tanjung Pelepas, Port Klang, Jebel Ali, Umm Qasr, Jebel Ali, Port Klang, Hong Kong and Shanghai, with the first Umm Qasr call due to take place on August 24th.
