The Danish Maritime Authority (DMA) has approved an application by the Indian Register of Shipping (IRClass) for authorisation as a Recognised Organisation (RO). IRClass is now approved by 44 flag administrations globally. Having secured EU approval in 2016, IRClass has been authorised already by several flag administrations including Malta, Cyprus, Netherlands and Bulgaria and is in the process of seeking approval from several other maritime flags in Europe.
IRClass’ strategy is largely based on expanding its presence in Europe. The company already has offices in the UK, Greece, the Netherlands and Turkey and plans to extend its business into other Northern European countries.
PK Mishra, vice president and regional manager, EU, for IRClass, says, “Being accepted as a Recognised Organisation by the DMA enables us to offer our classification services to Danish flagged vessels. Also it further enhances our reputation in the European market as a trustworthy classification society with a commitment to provide prompt and value-added services to European shipowners.”
