Albwardy Damen has signed a deal with Schottel for the latter to supply a full propulsion package for a new type of vessel that will be built by the UAE-based shipyard group. The Damen Multibuster 8020 (DMB 8020) is designed with extreme shallow draft for applications such as pipe laying and cable laying works, the upgrading, installation and decommissioning of platforms, as well as stimulation projects.
Tasks envisioned for the DMB 8020 require reliable DP performance, maximum thrust and high levels of maneuverability. As a result, Albwardy Damen opted for a propulsion package that comprises two Schottel Rudderpropellers type SRP 360 FP, one retractable Rudderpropeller SRP 260 RT FP plus a Schottel Tunnel Thruster type STT 2 FP. The package is completed with steering and control systems from Schottel as well.
Albwardy Damen will build the DMB 8020 for stock and the first units will be ready in early 2021. Albwardy Damen, a joint venture established in 2008 between Albwardy Investment in Dubai and Damen Shipyards in the Netherlands, operations in Dubai and well as Fujairah and Sharjah in the UAE.
