Abu Dhabi, UAE – ADNOC Logistics & Services (ADNOC L&S) has taken delivery of Al Rahba, the second of six newbuild liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers ordered from Jiangnan Shipyard in China. This marks a significant milestone in ADNOC L&S’s fleet expansion strategy, reinforcing its position as a leader in sustainable LNG transportation in the Middle East and beyond.
The delivery of Al Rahba forms part of a wider effort by ADNOC L&S to modernize and grow its fleet to meet increasing global demand for low-emission energy transport. Each of the new LNG carriers has a cargo capacity of 175,000 cubic metres and is equipped with advanced dual-fuel main engines, enabling significant reductions in environmental impact.
Designed to reduce methane emissions by up to 50% compared to previous-generation vessels, Al Rahba represents a leap forward in energy-efficient marine engineering. These enhancements align with ADNOC’s broader decarbonisation roadmap and the UAE’s vision for a greener, more efficient maritime sector.
The original contract for the six LNG carriers was signed in 2022, with ADNOC L&S choosing Jiangnan Shipyard, one of China’s top shipbuilders, for their strong track record in constructing technologically advanced LNG vessels. This move underscores ADNOC L&S’s commitment to investing in cutting-edge shipbuilding and its ambition to drive sustainable maritime logistics from the Middle East to global energy markets, including India, Europe, and Southeast Asia.
By expanding its LNG shipping capabilities, ADNOC L&S is not only strengthening Abu Dhabi’s maritime infrastructure but also contributing to the transition toward cleaner global energy supply chains.
