Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ), India’s largest private port operator, and Wilhelmshaven Freight Village Container Terminal, the only deep water container terminal in Germany, recently signed an agreement to collaborate to promote trade and container shipping operations between the two companies’ facilities.
At Mundra APSEZ operates the largest port-based special economic zone in India while the Freight Village at Wilhelmshaven supplements the deepwater German container terminal with industrial zones and trimodal transport connections. Following the agreement both parties will endeavour to identify products and shippers that can benefit from their respective facilities, adding value to the supply chain. The parties will also share best practices in terms of port operations and technology.
APSEZ claims a market share of 30% in India’s container traffic and operates container terminals in Mundra, Hazira, Kattupalli and Ennore. The company is also developing a transhipment port at Vizhinjam, Kerala. There are a number of liner services currently connecting India to Germany directly, as well as through transhipment. APSEZ believes its ports have the capability to handle these services and to offer tailor made services to commodities trading between India and Germany.
