AD Ports and Borouge explore East Coast export hub
AD Ports Group and leading petrochemicals company Borouge have signed an agreement to collaborate on establishing an alternative export hub on the UAE’s East Coast. The initiative will capitalise on AD Ports Group’s Fujairah Terminals and Eastern Ports facilities in the UAE, while assessing the development of dedicated polyolefins infrastructure on the East Coast.
Together, the two parties will focus on ways of reducing reliance on traffic through the Strait of Hormuz and other constrained maritime passages and will work with shipping lines to enable new trade routes through Fujairah Terminals. Borouge is the largest exporter through AD Ports Group, and this latest collaboration builds on a longstanding partnership between the two companies established in 2001.
AD Ports Group has also recently announced the establishment of a multimodal inland logistics network of rail-linked dry ports and cargo depots, including KEZAD Group’s Industry City of Abu Dhabi (ICAD). Four leading UAE manufacturers, Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA), EMSTEEL Group, Al Ghurair Iron & Steel, and Tenaris, will serve as anchor industrial cargo clients for the new rail-linked inland logistics network, which will connect Khalifa Port and Fujairah Terminals with ICAD and cargo depots across the UAE.
In a third initiative with positive implications for the East Coast logistics sector, Fujairah Terminals has signed land lease agreements with Fujairah International Airport, Fujairah Free Zone Authority and Al Dahra Agriculture Trading.
The leased lands, with a combined area of 130,000 sqm, will be utilised to enhance the logistics capabilities of Fujairah Terminals, reinforcing the port’s role as a gateway for regional and global trade.
