Gulftainer unveils Al Dhaid multimodal trade corridor
Sharjah-based Gulftainer has unveiled plans to develop the Al Dhaid Multi-Modal Trade Corridor, a 150-hectare facility with an annual throughput capacity of 1.5 million TEU. Designed to in effect provide a capacity extension for Khorfakkan Port, which is located just 50km away, this is a joint initiative between Sharjah Ports, Customs and Free Zones Authority and Gulftainer. The facility will be designed tp integrate Khorfakkan Port with the Etihad Rail network, to serve the entire Arabian Peninsula.
Commenting on the new trade corridor in Al Dhaid, Farid Belbouab, Group CEO of Gulftainer, said: “The Al Dhaid Multi-Modal Trade Corridor is set to become a vital economic engine for the Emirate of Sharjah, the UAE and the GCC. By combining Khorfakkan Port’s deep-water access with Etihad Rail’s freight power and backing it with world-class digital and ESG-ready infrastructure, Gulftainer is shaping the region’s new Middle East trade corridor.”
The Al Dhaid Multi-Modal Hub will include a large container yard and empty storage depot as well as a Container Freight Station (CFS). The latter will be able to consolidate a range of cargo types inland for same-day shuttle to the port, as well as handling freight transits into Saudi Arabia and Oman. Working in partnership with the Sharjah Ports Authority, Gulftainer promises a ‘frictionless, single-window clearance environment designed to accelerate regional trade.’
